Very excited to have another paper accepted in Oxford Open Neuroscience’s special collection on the Neurobiology of Associative Learning! This one from the Shansky lab!

The paper argues that two major puzzles, how the brain creates a unified experience and maintains an “edge-of-chaos” state, may be explained by continuous electromagnetic fields generated by neural activity.

Very happy to see this out! In this work I demonstrate the potential of OPMs for laminar MEG and investigate the impact of factors such as sensor counts, number of measurement axes, co-registration errors, misestimated forward models…
Already looking forward to Imaging Neuroscience’s 2025 collage!

I fear that placing too much emphasis on a specific interpretation of dimensionality, or treating dimensionality as an end-all quantification of some aspect of neural computation, may lead us down the wrong path, writes @mattperich.bsky.social.

In 1983 Benjamin Libet found that brain activity predicts your movements before you are aware of deciding to move. Three new papers say the measurements were fine but the interpretation was not.

Mapping how neurons connect across the brain is one of neuroscience’s biggest challenges. MouseLight (a Janelia Research Campus project) is building a dataset of fully traced neurons — available to researchers everywhere, & helping to reveal how brain circuits work & what goes wrong in disease.

so Ned Block just wrote an excellent review on a book, by a journalist, on consciousness, partly based on interviews w/ "gurus, novelists, and cultural figures", w/ some "eccentric arguments" & views

i suppose Ned was invited to do it. but why should Science care??
