I think it is important to note that there’s nothing wrong with having a different neurotype, such as autism (ASD), ADHD, etc. Pathologizing someone with autism potentially exacerbates existing harms they’re likely already struggling with. It leads to harmful labeling and stigma.

One reason for this is because communicating with someone with a similar neurotype to us often just easier, more comfortable, and more intuitive than constantly translating to fit a different neurotype

Autism, while listed in the DSM as a disorder, is better explained as a neurotype comprised of a constellation of traits that diverge from what is currently considered typical. The defining traits are not disordered by nature but pose challenges when attempting to meet expectations of peers.
