Here's the Neutronics Scoping Tool, which allows you to dial in a certain core height, radius, enrichment, and power rating and see if it will go critical and how long it will run. Then, it estimates the fuel LCOE, average discharge burnup, and a whole lot more. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQzD...

Also, I have my very nice fountain pen filled with Antique Copper ink. I’m gonna be fancy while being wise for the neutronics kids. They may know more about neutron interaction & imaging than I ever will, but it’s Time 2 Learn about product safety design for release into commerce.

This spring I'm reviving Physics 306: Nuclear Physics and Technology. Everything from shell models to reactor neutronics. Last time (2021) we talked about AP1000s, ESBWRs, and doomed SMR startups. Times have changed! Would love advice about how to teach the latest fusion and SMR R&D. #nukesky ⚛️🎢

Toss up between that and Reactor Core Neutronics. That shit was brutal.

Hey TRISO modelers, when you build a neutronics input with TRISO fuel, what are your favorite ways to set a given packing fraction without cutting off particles on the edge of your pebble or compact? Does everyone just write a packing script?

Furthermore, we in the Nordics do have a lot of nuclear expertise. For example, one of the things that stymied Taiwan's nuclear program for almost a decade were simulation codes required for detailed neutronics calculations.

Well... the most used neutronics code today is Finnish.

It's nice that openmc has some utilities to help, so that's a good approach for openmc. But what about other neutronics tools? nbviewer.org/github/openm...

RISO fuel and a compact design are built for a simpler safety case than large reactors need. Zero-power testing proves the neutronics work.

Many former bottlenecks like good neutronics codes and sufficient computing power (which stumped the Taiwanese program for years) don’t really apply in this case.

Tell that to the Japanese and Germans! There are major ICF companies in both countries and the momentum is only growing. I don’t think the NWS can tamp this one down.

But also yes, no one has proven our the TBR. TBF we haven’t had anything to try with either! I am worried about tokamak neutronics..

Thorium has a long history partly because the fuel cycle and neutronics can be elegant on paper, but engineering and licensing are different problems.

Reactor core neutronics borrows a lot from statistical thermodynamics. The neutron transport equation is based on the Boltzmann equation if I remember correctly.

Uuh, hello, new followers! I'm not on here a ton right now as I finish my PhD, but I do Monte Carlo neutronics modeling coupled with other stuff, with a bit of optimization thrown in. I also have 2 cats, play with the SCA sometimes, and do random other nerdy things.
