#NextGenEU is our investment plan for the future.

The results speak for themselves.

Romania is steadfast in dealing with the excessive budget deficit with challenging reforms and progressing with NextGenEU.

Spain's boom is a story of:

- energy abundance (wind, solar, LNG)
- public investment thanks to NextGenEU & domestic fiscal choices
- labour reforms driving higher-quality employment
- immigration combined with successful integration

So some luck - but also good policy.

Welcome to Brussels, dear Marcel Ciolacu.

We discussed our European work on competitiveness and security.

A strong Europe, means a strong Romania!

We also discussed how to make the best out of NextGenEU on the ground - many success stories still to be written!

Today, we hit a new milestone in the roll-out of #NextGenEU, our investment plan for the future.

€300 billion have been disbursed under the plan.

And the results on the ground are visible.

Swipe through some examples.

Wouldn’t now be a good time to decide that instead of paying back NextGenEU debt by 2058, we just roll it over until ... forever?
May 5, 2025 at 12:18 PM
We also discussed the rollout of #NextGenEU and steps needed, including in the justice area, for Slovakia to benefit from these investments to the fullest.

🚨 New: Green industrial policy in backdrop of EU recovery funds

In 2020, Covid froze Italy's economy. 🇪🇺 agreed on 🇮🇹's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR): €194.4B, largest share of NextGenEU.

The PNRR is now almost over, at last instalment.

What did it actually do for climate & energy? 🔋🪡

On investments, the hard work has paid off.

Our teams have agreed on a list of projects for a revised NextGenEU Plan.

We can finally unlock €10 billion, subject to the reforms adopted and investments implemented.

We have also made progress in cohesion policy, unlocking €6.4 billion overall.

Feels like no one’s talking about energy efficiency in Brussels these days… but it could actually be one of the big EU success stories

27% of NextGenEU funds (€91 billion!) have gone into energy-saving measures: renovating buildings, supporting SMEs, helping households cut bills - latest data shows

Denmark has delivered!

More than 250,000 zero-emission cars are on the road, and thousands of homes have switched to clean heating and improved energy efficiency.

#Denmark seems to use the #NextGenEU / RRF money rather sustainably...

Good point this. (I suppose the new Greek CA deficits reflect NextGenEU subsidies.)
France is not Greece. 🇫🇷 is running a broadly balanced current account. Greece ran large current account deficits (imports > exports) in the run-up to the Greek crisis, then suffered a sudden stop of capital inflows during the financial crisis. Btw 🇬🇷is back to large CA deficits.

The big question for Europe is how fast it can electrify and deploy renewables/alt energy to bring down inflation and prevent a stagflationary trap. Europe needs to be thinking along the scale of NextGenEU.

Debt without unanimity… is that the long-term direction for common European resources?

The NextGenEU fund runs out end of 2026. If a successor EU instrument cannot be established, an intergovernmental alternative (a coalition of states borrowing to invest together) should be on the table.
Most important is that Ukraine gets the money. Huge deal for EU:
1) if you want to do EU foreign policy, you need EU resources and debt. #EUCO delivered
2) First time this EU debt was decided without unanimity as far as I can remember

5/ Reengaging with the EU means plunging into - and truly understanding - the union as it is today. A PM conversant in the MFF, ETS2, NextGenEU etc will achieve breakthroughs in Brussels that one merely spouting Westminster talking points will not.

This approach is short-lived, at least in official planning documents, but leads to a definition of a shortlist of more realistically deliverable projects.

It's hort-lived because of a change at the political level and the sudden influx of money with the NextGenEU PNRR recovery plan in 2021.

#NextGenEU ? The next generation for EU is being 51st state of the USA after you sold us out to the molester. Traitor.

📈 Por qué la economía española crece tanto:

🔴 Salario real
🟠 Exposición al turismo (en lo bueno y en lo malo)
🟠 Tipos de interés (en lo bueno y en lo malo)
🟢 Inversión pública (NextGenEU)
🟢 Boom migratorio
🟢 Costes energéticos (renovables)

We often hear about energy prices in Germany and what a disastrous transition they've done, but Italy is the one looking real bad. Spain on the other hand is reaping the benefits of lower costs the last couple of years.

Manj proračunskih prihodkov, konec sredstev NextGenEU, Nemčija spet bremza, energetska kriza, opozorila pred stagflacijo ...

Grdo bo, za krmilom pa stranke, ki prodajajo že zdavnaj preživete trickle-down recepte, da se odkupijo kapitalskim botrom.

A je kdo rekel ZUJF?

With President of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, we visited Art Hub Gdańsk and new social housing partly funded by #NextGenEU.

Gdańsk shows how growth can support culture and leave no one behind.
