A solitary tree - an elm? - stands in a muddy farm field. In the far distance shrouded in morning mists is a line of trees. There are signs of new spring growth just breaking through the muddy soil. The tree is probably in bud, but those details are not obvious.

Looking south down the Old Welland Canal. In the centre of the image is Bridge 15. Looking north, up the Old Welland Canal, Bridge 15 occupies the centre of the image. Note the long pier in the right which leads to the centre swing pivot of the bridge. They knew in 1910 that piers like this protect the bridge from out-of-control ships. Underneath the bridge, we can see that it was a double-tracked rail bridge, the girders beginning to rust On the left, the concrete is crumbling from age.
