"I think indies are in the best position here. One person can accomplish more than a team or a large organization"

Not really - indies get their apps cloned 5-10 times with Apple search algo giving clones top positions (new apps get a boost) unless indies pay Apple extra for search ads.
@nicklockwood @tolmasky I don’t want to sound like an AI bro here (so don’t take it that way), but it really seems to be such a productivity multiplier that it can be difficult to keep up (in terms of sales) with all the AI competition, if one does not use AI. I certainly see that too. I still want to see the positive side in all of this and really think the increased output and competition will ultimately lead to better software and choices for end users. Doesn’t it usually end up that way? Related to your original point about indies, I think indies are in the best position here. One person can accomplish more than a team or a large organization. I think output now flipped, the smaller you are the better.

On the face of it this is absurd: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/oct/08/anthropic-bans-abusive-behavior-claude I can think of several good reasons for banning this behavior (AI might learn bad habits from it; waste of tokens; psychologically unhealthy for the user; etc) but none of them are "maybe the AI has feelings" I wonder if Anthropic knows this and it's all just marketing spin, or if they're actually that deluded?

Yeah, I suggested the possibility they might be worried about what the AI will learn from those interactions here n.social/@nicklockwood/117410135837453216" class="hover:underline text-blue-600 dark:text-sky-400 no-card-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link="bsky">https://mastodon.social/@nicklockwood/117410135837453216

But also (per that article) they _are_ in fact claiming that the AI might have feelings (we know that's horseshit, but do they?)
Nick Lockwood (@nicklockwood@mastodon.social)
Jokes aside, these are not the kind of mistakes AI makes, they're the kind of mistakes careless people make I suspect that in some ways this *was* caused by the AI push, but it's a second-order effect; they fired all the competent copywriters and QA folks because with AI they "don't need them anymore" but the intern now responsible for vibe-coding the website probably told the AI what text to put for the header without also asking it to check the spelling

@LucasTizma @nicklockwood @edog1203 Either way, every time I change the bounds, it just jumps to the new value. https://gist.github.com/mattbischoff/212bbc1a5fec2d878566

@LucasTizma @nicklockwood @edog1203 Yeah, that works great. bounds size not so much. :(

@LucasTizma @edog1203 @nicklockwood Right, which we could do with label or text layer also on a display link.

@LucasTizma @nicklockwood Yeah, you can get that to work.

@nicklockwood Why do they, and centre-left parties in general, have to be so god damned useless?

(I know the answer: lefties keep score with displays of ideological purity. The right keeps score with money. One of those is a game it’s possible to win.)

@nicklockwood I don’t disagree with any of that. But will they understand the lesson?

@nicklockwood I don’t _really_ think Rogan identifies a part of the millionaire class? But in any case, the hubris of dismissing him (and his tens of millions of listeners) is part of the reason the Democrats lost.

PicTiles is a new take on the Tetris genre. If you’re tired of building endless walls, why not try something a bit more adventurous?

I'm really admiring the Swift Community for not mentioning SwiftFormat by @nicklockwood as a tool to format Swift Code, so we urge to build a tool because there is none out there

a couple of challenges in this one:
- generate SwiftUI source code (live). It's like a reverse source parser. The output wouldn't look that great if I could use @nicklockwood SwiftFormat https://github.com/nicklockwood/SwiftFormat as a library - truly a lifesaver!

SimpleStorage... feels like I should just use a caching system. I was planning on using NSCache, but support on non-Apple platforms doesn't seem to be... great. I'll probably use LRUCache. Seems simple enough.
