Evening scene aboard an underground subway train in a somewhat murine City, facing out the window as the train makes a stop at thirty-fourth street, Herald Square, according to the placard tile on the wall; the doors are open on the other side of the train car, but our scene faces a wall of plain, white, ceramic tiles which appear yellow as they are lit by the dimmed and dying overhead lamps; the amber glow also shines on a small poster on the wall that indicates the last time these tracks were treated with rat poison; reading "N.Y.C. Transit- Division of Track" and the words in bright red: "Caution - Rodenticide", the poster apprars very old, and the official date is essentially worn off - it might say two-thousand -and-two or two-thousand-and-four, but it is anyone's guess when this area was last treated; people do not like rats because they carry disease, but instead of killing them, maybe they can consider providing them care.

I love my pets, but the beagles started borking hysterically at nightsquirrels at 5, and then the 24 y.o. cat started yowl-howling for food at 5:15 and I woke up like
