City is great, KyoAni's ability to give life to Arawi Keiichi's work is still so amazing. I also think that they manage to excite massive busy images into animation in a way that doesn't lose the feeling. Niikura is my personal favorite but everyone is so good!

Technically, the painting exemplifies classic ink-wash and Nihonga sensibilities, relying on fluid, wet-on-wet pigment pooling techniques reminiscent of traditional tarashikomi. The broad leaves of the plant are rendered in layered washes of deep forest green, sepia, and warm burnt umber, allowing water and ink to bleed naturally across the paper surface to suggest the weathered, mottled texture of late-season foliage. Along these delicate stalks, Niikura applies fine, scattered flecks of vermilion pigment, capturing the tiny flowering nodes that bend and yield to the wind's invisible push.
