Nkruma Tenten Okra, Abelmoschus caillei

I grow this every year. Heat and somewhat drought tolerant. Flowers, leaves and pods are edible. Pick pods when young and succulent.

The overwhelming bulk of foreign aid has been either for building the road and utility infrastructure needed to offshore Western corporate production, or subsidizing the purchase of US arms.
As Kwame Nkruma said, it's what was just called "foreign investment" under colonialism.
like, you find yourself wondering what people thought international aid was *for* -- yes it helps people survive and is a moral good in that sense, but it is also for the maintenance of US hegemony and has worked that way for like 90 years

(Ex. continued)
Chickpeas and soybeans suffer from heat stress above 90°F, while urad dal has an optimal growing temperature of 77-95°F (25-35°C). And tepary beans can still flower and set beans at 105°F (40°C).

Growing jackfruit to harvest leaves 🧵

TL;DR
Easy plant, nutritious, grows like a beast, pest resistant, bring indoors in winter

Grind leaves into powder, filter out inedible fibers, ferment powder in yogurt

ho chi mihn, marcus garvey, and kwame nkruma are the ones that come to mind, but that depends on how strict your definitions are
Bluesky history enjoyers: who would you say are the most prominent examples of historians who were also major historical actors? The ones that jump out at me are Walter Rodney, Adolphe Theirs, and W.E.B Du Bois

First pic is Fukushu kumquats, second is blueberries and sugars snaps, third is Nkruma Tenten okra and Tepary beans, and last pic are native black raspberries. 💙💚

Yeah, the substitute for corn in 3 sisters method is usually large sunflower species but I use Nkruma Tenten Okra. It gets too hot here for sunflowers to set seed.

Three sisters, I use okra, Tepary beans and Melothria pendula.

Early in the season, it looks like this and I never have to water it.

“Communist theory is so Eurocentric”

People like Mao Zedong, Ho Chi Minh, Xi Jinping, Kwame Nkruma, Robert Mugabe, Isaias Afwerki, Harry Haywood, WEB du Bois, Assata Shakur, José Carlos Mariátegui, George Manuel, Nick Estes, Jose Marti, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara…

… are so Eurocentric.

"Third World" was a popular term when I studied. A "Third Worldist" might support the principles advocated by the NIEO (New International Economic Order).

It also gave us well intentioned but nonetheless autocratic leaders like Nkruma, Nyrere, & Nasser. Maybe that's where he's going w this.

Tamarind leaves are delicious. Baobab, Kaffir lime, certain species of avocado (not Persea americana), mulberry, maypop (tastes really grassy/waxy), Nkruma Tenten okra, jackfruit leaves (I did a whole thread on it), partridge berry…

Strawberry, blackberry and raspberry leaves are used in teas…
