And I think that's an important lesson, too.
Nonaggression is one thing but don't empower your enemies even if you do gain benefits from it.
But the Soviets were doing that with *everyone* mind, if you look at Amtorg. They had trade relations with the western allies as well.

The capitalist countries were the ones that used the Nazis/Hitler as an opportunity to crush the communist revolution. They all signed nonaggression pacts with Nazi Germany well before the USSR did.

It's not something everyone will stomach, the same way the people who would couldn't stomach absolute nonaggression, and if everyone accepts their autonomy with its consequences, no big deal, but it's divorcing yourself from the consequences that makes the "never respond violently" crowd so weird.

That's kind of you to say. Peace doesn't always come easy. Mother had to hammer out a nonaggression pact with our neighbors. The pact says there won't be war between us, Solm, and Brodia.
