I know empathy is in short supply, but I do wonder why none of these people consider 'what if the french government considers you a nonperson with no rights when you are there on a tourist visa' type scenarios. Though I guess a big problem is a lot of these people with money and time barely travel

what is most special to me is the characters within that world; i think every single person (and nonperson) in of the devil is written with an impressive amount of humanity. they're not just designed intelligently and beautifully, they're written in a way that makes them feel so real.

Agreed, he definitely didn't misspeak, he sees Kimmel as someone with status comparable to his and thus of the utmost importance, whereas Khalil is just a name of a nonperson whose story is of minimal relevance and whatever happens to him isn't a big deal.
