For what it's worth, people have been saying "nobody reads anymore" for decades, or as long as I can remember, but there will always be readers and nonreaders. I recommend being a reader.

My experience seeing replies to this sort of thing is that A) heavy readers can't comprehend nonreaders, and B) nonreaders can't comprehend heavy readers.
I cannot fathom not reading books in your free time. I come from a family of readers and apparently am in the top 3% of books read for the median American. Learning new things and escaping into new worlds is so much fun!

Hey, things are awful, we're all stressed, but it's still good to read books and encourage others to read, especially nonreaders. Reading novels can build empathy, and we could use even more empathy right about now.

I don't understand, outside of the context of games, what "appeals to nongamers" means. Games are the most prolific entertainment media on the planet. Something like half the world plays some form of video games, yet folks discuss it like a monolith. Nobody says "appeals to nonreaders." It's weird.

it’s bad that a lot of people don’t read, and especially bad that some people have outsourced their critical thinking to AI. however many people do read, and there’s always been a gap between readers & nonreaders. how are we to understand this. an impossibility.

My (autistic) son is terrified of loose dogs. In fact, his first published essay was on how leash laws are a disability rights issue. For nonreaders, we recently made a video that shows how disruptive these violations of the leash law can be for our family.

and I want to say. I loved Harry Potter. I read those books to kids in my classroom for a decade. I saw the way those books changed nonreaders into readers. BUT THIS IS A POISON WELL.
