Norooz, the Persian New Year, has roots in Zoroastrianism, which was founded in Persia in the sixth century BCE. The Persian calendar, known as the Solar Hijri calendar, is a solar calendar that is based on Earth’s movements around the Sun. Nowruz is the first day of the year on the Persian calendar and the first day of spring around the world based on the spring equinox. Norooz is celebrated at the exact moment of the spring equinox when the sun crosses the celestial equator. This year the spring equinox occurred at 5:01 am, on Thursday March 21, 2025 #PersianNewYear #NoRooz #SpringEquinox #IranianNewYear #NoroozMubarak
