Hm. It seems that Apple Maps labels the Léman as Lake Geneva, or “Lac de Genève”. After a little research, it seems that Apple Maps feedback mechanism was gamed into changing the name #lol #nothingbettertodo This is a long standing (local) controversy/joke between the people of Geneva (well, at least some) and neighbouring states (France included). Nothing really worth talking about as most foreigners visiting Geneva call the lake “Lake Geneva” anyway. Most other major lakes in the country, with maybe a couple of exceptions, are named according to the closest major city – and that Geneva Lake was known as “Lac de Lausanne” _(Lacus Lausonius)_ in medieval times. Lac de Genève Geneva Lake I wonder how long it will stay this way. It won’t change anything to its beauty, or to our luck to live close to this vast body of freshness and escape. Note: the name “Léman” comes from _Lacus Lemanus_ , hence calling Lake Geneva “Lac Léman” is a pleonasm – albeit widely accepted.
