Protip: For multitasking, you'll likely need a per scene notificationCenter instance. That was also the easiest way for me to communicate between swiftUI & UIKit. A bit of a hassle to set up, but once it's running, works great.

Foundation things for which docs are still in the works: NotificationCenter is now concurrency-friendly with a new "Messages" type. Lots of notifications in Foundation, UIKit, and AppKit are now available with this approach. Also in Foundation, there's a "#bundle" macro that's way nicer than doing Bundle(MyClass.self)… or god forbid, a hard-coded bundle identifier. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/updates/foundation

Here's another Swift package that improves NotificationCenter ergonomics. It’s not a new idea. It’s a strongly-typed interface on notification payloads. Not yet on the Swift package index, and also not yet integrated into my pet projects. https://github.com/samsonjs/NotificationSmuggler
It walks through failed attempts (like NotificationCenter) and ends with a working solution that reliably targets the active window - even with tabbed windows.
