The novelisation is a missed opportunity and a lost art form, poached from us by capitalists.
We still know the stories of Robin Hood and King Arthur because of novelisations. Peter Pan & Hitchhiker were novelisations. They should be a thing all writers can enjoy doing, knowing it's a real art form

20) Easily in the top decile of SFF books I've read in the last 2 or 3 years are the novelizations of Heaven's Vault by Jon Ingold and basically no one has read them because they're video game novelizations. You should overcome your prejudices and read them. Language, memory, history, & power.

A good number of 'reluctant readers' among my sons' friends as teenagers were started on what's now a permanent book habit by Halo novelisations, Star Wars tie-in fiction, Warhammer's Black Library, other computer game and film franchise. Which is skilled writing work, in case you were wondering.
This is my go-to when parents ask me how to get their kids to read (because this is just something authors know). It’s *amazing* to me how much resistance it gets. Likewise “let them read books about spaceships, ninjas and magic.”
As an English teacher with sixteen years in the classroom, THIS all day long. Comics are the most effective gateway drug for reading that there is. More comics in school libraries has to be the goal of anyone serious about literacy. If you are a UK school library we can help with that. Please let us

Canon isn’t real and mostly should be talked about like a Victorian walking around the Great Exhibition ie it’ll be gone soon and its remains will be accidentally burned. Try talking to a fan of the Star Wars novelisations.

Man. New Frontier was such a big deal to teen Mike. Essentially a series of novelisations of a Trek show that never existed. Ahead of its time in many, many ways. Might have to go reread them.
