My thoughts on NovelToons is that it makes Walter Lantz look like Chuck Jones
There's this real bootleg quality to some of them they are exact type of generic cartoon they would have playing in the background of a tv show if to nail down the vibe specifically lol

Another obscure cartoon commentary review from the vulpine private toon detective Sam Valentino, featuring a fox in the short as well: the 1964 Paramount Noveltoon "Whiz Quiz Kid" starring Ollie the Owl!

Going through the 1940s Noveltoons library and it's surprisingly pretty solid? There's actual life to them it's not as formulaic
All this is telling me is the introduction of Harvey Comics in the 50s was the problem, there's so much passion here I'm stunned 😭

MeTV Cartoons is running Harvey Cartoons and Paramount Noveltoons and they are SO BAD
Imagine plinking down your dime to see a Bogart or Hepburn picture and hoping to see a Merrie Melodie or a Tom & Jerry and getting one of these instead

Need to make a point my contention with Noveltoons being mean spirited is that I have no issue with that, looney tunes can get pretty mean what's distinct is that it makes the misery fun because either it's too absurd or there's added catharsis
Some of these Famous toons just get miserable 😭

Can other Nick animated properties make references to Noveltoons like SpongeBob or are they too niche to even try that?
I think it says a lot Paramount are more known for their 90s-present animation than there actual history from the golden age can't think of any other studio with that baggage lol

For 2025, I promise to become even more deeply fascinated by terrible golden age cartoons. In the age of the best merrie melodies, you get a ton of noveltoons

If us Golden Age Cartoon fans have ONE enemy... it's Paramount.
They own all the Pre-1950 Fleischer and Famous Studios cartoons (except Popeye and Superman) - i.e. Betty Boop, Color Classics, Talkartoons, the feature films Gulliver's Travels and Mr. Bug Goes to Town, Little Lulu, early Noveltoons

I've been watching Noveltoons/Harveytoons recently, and imagine my surprise that they didn't really hit their stride until the 1950s, while almost everyone else was either plateauing or degrading.
The Baby Huey series especially is one of the funniest cartoon series I've seen in a while.
