It's great because that volume has werewolves and vampires and the plantation ghosts, plus I teach Nukeface as a zombie.

Would love to hear the creative origins/process of the Nukeface story. Have you, John, or Alan ever written an article specifically about this? How did you go about finding the newspaper clips? Where could this narrative concept go from there?

As I sit here, half way through the RAI therapy that makes me radioactive enough to be a danger to anyone within six feet of me, I have the urge to go re-read the "Nukeface" story from Alan Moore's run of Swamp Thing.
Won't, though. I'd literally contaminate the comic right now. Sigh.

This is a really tough question. There are a lot of valid answers, but I’m gonna go with Nukeface, the man who killed Swamp Thing. Hard to believe he’s one of the few elements of Moore’s run we never returned to.

...from the Charlton Pre-Code horror comic THE THING. However, I hasten to add, I'm the one who made the Steve Ditko connection; John Totleben hadn't seen or read "Doom in the Air," Nukeface was his creation, predating our SOTST collaboration by at least a couple of years.

Nukeface was entirely John Totleben's concept & character, brilliantly scripted by Alan Moore; pencils (and collage pasteups of actual newspaper articles) by me, lettered by John Costanza, inks by John Totleben, colors Tatjana Wood, edit Karen Berger. We owed a Ditko debt to "Doom in the Air"...
