What’s tacitly being assumed I think is a restriction to some very specific subfield (eg Carolingian numismatics). But that sort of restriction is not always possible; in some cases you need to understand neighboring disciplines.

But numismatists are like another step beyond that. Especially once I learned how they could date specific coins by the different rates at which the top and bottom plates wore out when striking them. Dear god, it makes dendrochronology look straightforward and trivial.

putting aside he was being confidently wrong, i still find it wild that people act like furry = anything you say is worthless
it's a hobby and a subculture
