Pushing the boundaries of non-legumes cover cropping for Autumn here in #NYorks ?

A bed of mixed seeds 🌱 germinating in the foreground. Trying to recall what was there... surplus brassica, lambs lettuce, a few sunflower, a bit of phacelia, coriander... most will get roots down as green manure

For #InsectThursday images of NYorks Meadow Brown, Red Admiral butterflies (and 1 unidentified) that have been through the wars - amazed some of them still able to fly. Red Admiral image shows how delicate their wings are.

Are the @Conservatives actually bothering to do door-to-door canvassing in Richmond, NYorks constituency? I’d love to have a one to one with @RishiSunak. Let me know when you’ll be knocking on my door and I’ll make sure I’m in.

Guinevere sought guidance from her brother when pronouncing Akeld.
Ay killed. Ay rhymes with hay. Recorded as Achelda 1169, oak tree slope. Not to be confused with Keld in Cumbria ("spring") or NYorks ("spring by the apple tree".) It's in the spellings....

Also all the lead bullets found and more would still not take up a single ingot... So I doubt expense is an issue.

Better late than never? Lovely colony of V odorata white Sweet Violets spreading despite a nearby new development. Seems bigger threat is from well-meaning daffodil planters determined to ‘beautify’ ancient lane verges close to a nature reserve #NYorks

Anyway, today it’s back to NYorks, via coffee at Waterstones because it is nithering in Newcastle and I’ll be fucked if I’m sitting for an hour and half in Costa on the station concourse exposed to the elements.

I have a pair of small finches building a nest in this Box bush by my front door, in a rural NYorks village. I am useless at distinguishing small brown finches but assume linnets given location/choice of nest site? Haven’t been able to photograph but male has flushed breast but not really red.

How are you collecting these?

On the old place I followed a NYorks Birds feed where some chap (near Hunmanby I think) had a microphone setup on his roof which would recognise nocturnal honks and calculate numbers. Fantastic.
