Mike Johnson is an incomplete grade right now. He kept his gavel. But he needlessly antagonized Massie, did all sorts of accounting tricks to get the OBBBA over the line. Crushed regular order after promising it. Kept the House out of session for record time. But at what cost?

I wish the NYT spent even 1/10 of the time spent on this on the 5.5 million people who've lost
SNAP benefits since OBBBA.

A reminder that Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) includes big changes that will take effect after the 2026 midterm elections.

The bill implements Medicaid cuts, SNAP work requirements, and tax changes.

*Wait*, why isn't the House enough? Two huge traps. First: Republicans already pre-funded ICE & CBP with a *$240B* mandatory slush fund through 2029 (OBBBA + Secure America Act) so a Dem House alone can't defund raids via annual budgets! Second: only the Senate confirms judges and Cabinet picks.
November 1, 2026 at 5:46 PM
First, if the GOP keeps House + Senate: they already passed OBBBA (cutting $187B from SNAP, imposing Jan 1, 2027 Medicaid work rules) and June's Secure America Act. Now House Republicans queued up a $95B "Reconciliation 3.0" cut blueprint, and RSC wants to gut Medicaid expansion match rates next.

Going to be so great when IN SoS Beau Bayh runs for and wins Senate in 2028 reclaiming his dad’s seat bc Trump wrecked Indiana’s economy through tariffs, OBBBA, and a recession

i'm sorry dude but that's insane, he has been vocally against OBBBA and the medicaid cuts from the very start

Ngl given Moran voted for the OBBBA which will make 2028 worse than 2026 (as all the shit from 2026 continues) I do think ppl need to seriously considering contesting IA/KS/IN come 2028 too

Since OBBBA passed, American women have faced severe consequences & devastating losses in health & reproductive care.

More drastic cuts to health care will take effect in the new year. THIS IS BY DESIGN to escape wrath in the midterm elections.

The IRS’s year-end guidance report shows no regulations yet on OBBBA’s exemption, final donor-advised fund rules, or final SECURE 2.0 RMD rules; the SEC finds an RIA’s hedge clause misleading; the Tax Court won’t revisit BBA equitable tolling; and Katten, Whiteford, and Lathrop on drafting, Virginia POA agents, and state wealth taxes.

“We’re trained to do preventive care and help people navigate their illnesses. We’re not trained to decide whether someone is able to work,” Eva Shapiro, a physician in Tucson, AZ #Medicaid #WorkRequirement #HR1 #OBBBA #healthpolicy
After the Trump admin's big loss in court yesterday, states can now exempt everyone with certain illnesses/disabilities from Medicaid work requirements that go live nationally in January. The judge struck down a rule that would have forced many to get a doctor's note to prove they couldn't work.
'Contrary to law': Judge strikes down Trump admin's definition of 'medically frail' in Medicaid work requirements
The guidance released in June "is beyond the powers of CMS and thus contrary to law," the federal judge in Boston said.

Can't know exactly how much $ Apple got from the new OBBBA provision allowing immediate expensing of R&D last year, but the relevant deferred tax asset went down by $1.4 billion so that seems like a reasonable guess. JCT estimates nationwide R&D expensing costs $35 billion in FY26.

5.5 million people, including 2 million children, cut from food stamps in first year of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill
The Congressional Budget Office projected that the OBBBA would remove about 2.4 million people from the program once fully implemented. More than twice that number have been cut in a single year.

45Z was untouched by OBBBA, we're seeing the result of leaving an IRA tax incentive in place "By reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the company qualifies for a bigger federal tax credit for low-carbon biofuels."
"POET has been pleased with the results so far and plans to switch off its gas boilers nearly year-round. The cost of the steam it gets from Antora is competitive with buying natural gas, the company said. "

Few people I talk to know that the US passed a federal tax on greenhouse gas emissions in 2022. It would have penalized methane (a fast GHG and the main component of natural gas) leaked or vented from oil and natural gas systems. It's still on the books, though OBBBA pushed back implementation by a
The Trump administration is set to announce a proposal to weaken a regulation that requires oil and gas companies to limit leaks of methane, a more potent driver of climate change than carbon dioxide, according to people familiar with the matter.

Idk, I just don’t want the strongly worded investigation process aka impeachment that doesn’t have the Senate votes to give Vance a 2028 incumbency advantage anyway. I want to find a job, not pay out the ass for gas & groceries, & keep my fucking healthcare I’m at risk of losing thanks to the OBBBA.
