#OCapN
Well this is a big milestone! hachyderm.io/@ridley/1163...

This is the first time two distinct OCapN implementations have talked to each other.

Dart 🤝 Scheme

What is OCapN, you ask? It's the next generation of secure RPC using capability security! Check it out and get involved! ocapn.org

OCapN is both old tech (it's based on CapTP from E, the same language the EC Habitat game used) and new; we're collaborating on making this a standard everyone can use at ocapn.org

Goblins abstracts the network though. You usually never even need to think about it! Just do ordinary programming!

I too wish atproto went more in the form of UCAN or OcapN. Permissioned spaces gonna be dope regardless, but my nerd senses tingle that this seems like it couldve supported more use cases
Anyways, that'd be one change I'd make.

I think you could make a very lightweight version of this for AT, you wouldn't even need a full OcapN type thing like Endo/Spritely are doing (although people who found this interesting might check those out).

I like her work, particularly OCapN (ocapn.org), but I hate the purity tests going on here. BlueSky /is/ meaningfully decentralized, and that’s good.

I worry about how many tech leftists want intentionally exclusive network technologies, and I think there’s some of that here too.

I'm really proud of how the OCapN effort is going btw.

Let me be bold: people think my legacy is ActivityPub, but I think the work we are doing at @spritelyinst.bsky.social and on OCapN are much, much more important long-term in terms of how they change the game of how the internet works.

My first significant contribution to the OCapN capability transfer protocol pre-standards effort as the coeditor representing Agoric has been driving toward a consensus on the abstract data model. With blessings from our group, it is now merged:

Goblins is deeply integrated with its network protocol OCapN (the Object Capability Network).

CapN supports wild things like:

- distributed, efficient capabilty security
- sending messages to objects before they even exist (promise pipelining!)
- distributed garbage collection
- and much more!

may write a blog post comparing capnweb and OCapN 🤔

Big shit is happening in OCapN right now oh my god

3 different interoperable language implementations?!?! All assing the test suite?!?! (4 if both Racket & Guile count ;P)

More sooooooooon

OCapN, my CapN ?

The OCapN website needs heavy amounts of editing (it's behind the repo, we do have draft specs / an implementation guide now) but speaking of metamask/agoric/spritely and ocaps: ocapn.org github.com/ocapn/ocapn/

We're getting there. It's taken years, but we've got three big things that are putting the pieces in place:
- Goblins, our p2p programming environment! spritely.institute/goblins/
- OCapN, our p2p programming protocol! ocapn.org
- Hoot, bringing Spritely to browsers! spritely.institute/hoot/

We made a cute lil' multiplayer walk-around-and-plant-things demo for the last lisp game jam using Goblins, Hoot, and OCapN!

We’re excited to announce Spritely Goblins 0.18.0! Featuring new caching layer called “sleepy actors”, OCapN protocol updates, and numerous bug fixes!

Get cozy by the fire, get a nice cup of tea, and have a relaxing read about this exciting new Goblins release! spritely.institute/news/spritel...

As foretold! Spritely Goblins 0.15.0 is OUT... Goblins in the browser!!! spritely.institute/news/spritel...

You can even try a real little running mini chatroom using Goblins and OCapN, right in the blogpost!

This has been SUCH a major effort from the whole Spritely team! Goblins + Hoot! Horray!

Such a phenomenal project! If yer not broke like me, give them money b/c we really need tools like Goblins and OCapN if we wanna live thru the death throes of capitalism.
For this #GivingTuesday I'm going to make the (biased) argument for why you might consider donating to @spritelyinst.bsky.social, especially if you care about a healthier future for the internet! spritely.institute/donate/

Spritely Goblins v0.16.1 has been released! spritely.institute/news/spritel...

This patch release includes several fixes! Most especially, OCapN + Goblins programs stopped compiling to Webassembly with Hoot (oops, it's fixed now!)

@spritelyinst.bsky.social is developing some damn cool tech: Distributed programming! Leading the way on a secure P2P protocol (OCapN)! A WebAssembly toolkit!

But: is "cool tech" what matters? *Why* are we trying to make cool tech? What are the *social implications* of making this technology?
December 2, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Right now I am engaged in conensus-building on new specification work (distributed network, lower level than social tho) with OCapN.

This time we're doing a better job I think, but that's because we're learning from all the burn marks we've experienced with standards and interoperability work
November 23, 2024 at 1:17 PM
maybe i'll add some of these to my language? -> wait fuck i can just implement ocapn with the added benefit of having a common protocol rather than some adhoc bs i cooked up -> do agents in js (or maybe rust lol), ill probably end up using goblins too

Spritely Goblins 0.15.0 is OUT! Goblins in the browser AT LAST! spritely.institute/news/spritel...

As long prophesied! Goblins on Hoot at last!
