This makes a lot of sense. My monitor, phone and tv are all OLEDs which explains why I'm not seeing the issue. Guess scanlines are doing something I see on peoples LCD monitors.
This is because most viewers are looking at it through stream compression on a cheap LCD display so it just looks black and washed out. CRTs and OLEDs let you have lots of darkness without dimming the whole image, which is how it was meant to look - dark backgrounds, vibrant UI and effects.
Checking back on my stream upload for Rondo and the scanline argument is just so fascinating because the game looks objectively better with scanlines but because it's darker with them a significant portion of chat thinks it looks bad. The scanline version is darker because it's supposed to be!

Seeing real CRTs and more modern LCDs next to each other at Mikado was eye-opening. The "jump" to LCD and flatscreens was SUCH a colossal step backwards... Only modern OLEDs start catching up to the brightness, the deep blacks and the motion clarity of a good CRT.

why is it so bad compared to other emulators. like i know you cant do runahead but the ps3 emulator is nothing like this. dolphin feels fine. i will not rest til we get crt response time on modern oleds

and look, sky was great for its era, but it was a different league back then. it was playing against babbling brooks and swaying fields of wheat. you put those experiences up against a squad of 72 inch oLEDs and short throw 10,000 NIT projectors and they're not even making it to the pros
