django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured: Could not find the GDAL library . Try setting GDAL_LIBRARY_PATH in your settings. Windows 10-64 bit py39
When running paver setup attempting to configure Geonode (Windows 10-64bit, Python 39), I get a raise of django being improperly configured. The computer suggests that if I have installed GDAL successfully then I should try setting GDAL_LIBRARY_PATH in my settings. I have successfully installed gdal via pip install GDAL-3.3.1-cp39-cp39-win_amd64.whl. The settings for the geonode project are as follows (C:\Users\amell\Documents\geonode\geonode): if os.name == 'nt': import platform OSGEO4W = r"C:\OSGeo4W" if '64' in platform.architecture()[0]: OSGEO4W += "64" assert os.path.isdir(OSGEO4W), "Directory does not exist: " + OSGEO4W os.environ['OSGEO4W_ROOT'] = OSGEO4W os.environ['GDAL_DATA'] = OSGEO4W + r"\share\gdal" os.environ['PROJ_LIB'] = OSGEO4W + r"\share\proj" os.environ['PATH'] = OSGEO4W + r"\bin;" + os.environ['PATH'] I then added the below code to the above and still get the same issue: GDAL_LIBRARY_PATH = r'C:\OSGeo4W64\bin\gdal301.dll' I have in addition checked the lib names to see if the GDAL version I installed (331) is listed (C:\Users\amell\Documents\geonode_env\Lib\site-packages\django\contrib\gis\gdal\libgdal). Strangely, the .dll in C:\OSGeo4W64\bin is 301 and not 331 (others suggested renaming this which failed), though I installed 331 via pip using the .whl file. I am currently not sure what the problem is, I tried possible solutions suggested by those with the same issue and they do not seem to work for my case. Perhaps I am missing something.

GDAL C# Bindings for VRT don't write a VRT file
I have previously asked this question on stack overflow, and am now asking this more specialized audience. I'm wondering why the GDAL C# library (v2.3.3) call to Gdal.wrapper_GDALBuildVRT_names(...) does not produce a physical destination VRT file. When I issue the equivalent command in the OSGeo4W shell (to combine the 0000a013.gn1 and 0000b013.gn1 files), a VRT file is written to the supplied destination path (C:\Temp\z7_x43_y43.vrt): gdalbuildvrt C:\Temp\z7_x43_y43.vrt F:\gnc\1\0000a013.gn1 F:\gnc\1\0000b013.gn1 However, when I issue the command in C#, no VRT file is written to the supplied destination path (I've made sure the folder exists and that the file isn't already there): GdalConfiguration.ConfigureGdal(); var vrtFile = @"C:\Temp\z7_x43_y43.vrt"; var aeroFiles = new List(); aeroFiles.Add(@"F:\gnc\1\0000a013.gn1"); aeroFiles.Add(@"F:\gnc\1\0000b013.gn1"); var vrtOptions = new GDALBuildVRTOptions(new [] { "-overwrite" }); var vrt = Gdal.wrapper_GDALBuildVRT_names(vrtFile, aeroFiles.ToArray(), vrtOptions, null, null); The *.gn1 files are NITF, WGS84, degree unit files that work fine in other respects (e.g., the OSGeo4W command processes them perfectly). The resulting vrt instance is correct - I can use it as a Dataset in other parts of my code, and can even cut PNG tiles from it doing something like this (pngFile and translateOptions are defined elsewhere): Gdal.wrapper_GDALTranslate(pngFile, vrt, new GDALTranslateOptions(translateOptions.ToArray()), null, null); But why is no VRT file ever written to disk? We have to supply a destination path (vrtFile), so doesn't that imply a destination file will be written?

To you QGIS users, today I updated from 3.40.5 to 3.40.6 with the OSGeo4W installer and failed to notice "(meta-package, long term release)". Now my QGIS installs all say "You are running a development version of QGIS". If I wait a few days will I be able install the regular LTR over this? #GISchat

I got some new computers last August and decided to try the online OSGeo4W installer. I spent way too many years installing with the .exe or .msi files. I learned that the online OSGeo4W installer is so much better! #GISchat

I just updated QGIS from 3.34.15 LTR to 3.40.5 LTR (so a new LTR series) today using the online OSGeo4W installer. It is so much more efficient than downloading the .msi file, installing the .msi file and then uninstalling the older version of QGIS like I used to do. #GISchat

Deciding to use the OSGeo4W installer for updating QGIS instead of the MSI installer files. I should have started doing this a long time ago... #GISchat
