I havent played Cai's yet but I hear that is the case. I think you're technically supposed to play the obelisks from left to right.
I was so confused starting Dietrich's route 3rd and thinking he just didn't have the 'search' command because Leda and Theodora both start with it. Unlocked like ch 5

Step 2: Ancestry Your ancestor choice may alter your appearance. You may choose 1 or a mix of ancestries, or a random ancestry using a d8. Boggart You are a blue goblin with cyan hair and tattoos. While touching boggart obelisks, you feel warm enough to survive arctic colds. Boggarts born near gem deposits are half reincarnations and may have visions of former lives that died near those gems. You are an omnivore that also eats rocks and ore. Coleop You look like a short humanoid beetle. You have a sturdy exoskeleton and are unaffected by most pollution, smog, or disease, so Coleop settlements are often trashed and riddled with alchemy vapor. Coleops hatch in batches of eggs. You eat insects, roots, fruits and decaying matter. Deepfolk You are covered in fish scales, the bottom half of your body is a slithering tail, and you have four arms. You have colourful fabric-like fins instead of hair. Deepfolk newborns only breathe underwater and then transition to only breathing on land as teens. Your eyes see underwater and you can drink salt water. You are a carnivore. Gnaver You look like a large beaver, mouse or rat with short fur. You have a strong sense of smell and are nocturnal. Gnaver are born in litters and eat trees, seeds, grains and fruits. You are designed to burrow, cut wood, and swim, so most Gnaver communities are on water or underground. Many swear they hear dark gods whispering in the night. Hellion Your parents or distant ancestors were cursed. You look slightly monstrous, have horns, and your skin and hair can be any colour, though most are red with black or white hair. You are warm and accustomed to high altitudes, with a pointed tail, bat wings that cannot fly and monster eyes. Hellion communities may include folk or items inflicted with less dangerous curses. Human Humans vary in size and colouration from anywhere between short and tall, dark and pale. Many can grow beards. You likely have brown, blonde, black, or grey hair and brown, blue, hazel, amber, or green eyes. Your diet is able to adapt to almost any ecosystem and you are an abnormally capable traveller. You feel drawn to bonfires. Leshy You are thin, tall, graceful, and pale. Your body is armoured by living plants, roots, bark, vines, and fungi worn as a shell. You are a herbivore who quickly grew from a seed, with a strange connection to the roots under your homeland. Leshy avoid wearing metal, using flowers as jewelry. Tarragon You are a cold-blooded reptilian with a dragon-like head. Your scales come in earthy colours, matching where your egg hatched. For example: green, brown, gray, or sand. Depending on how your egg was cared for, you were born to be a soldier with strong jaws and crocodile tail, a 3m tall worker, or with metallic scales, the ability to hatch eggs, and the expectation to start your own clan. You do not drink, even in a desert you breathe in humidity from under your scales.

I had a great time at the Reality Fracture pre-release at Phoenix Nest last night!
People loved the spooky Fran stickers I handed out to folks I talked with, and I went 3-1 into 6th place.

I’ve been sifting through IGN and it looks like you should play through until Part 3. And always make sure you’ve completed a chapter before switching to a new lord’s path

Still, it’s highly recommended to keep at one story path until reaching Part 3, at which point you are encouraged to play the other paths (or forge ahead with just one hero).

It seems like Part 1 of the game is interacting with the four obelisks to go through the stories of four major characters to essentially recruit them through time travel, then Part 2 is when you leave the Obelisk Chamber and confront whatever is outside
