The new Obena-class model for Star Trek Online was modeled by Tobias Richter, with some polish work done by @ramonmatas.bsky.social, who collaborated with @scorpiondesign.bsky.social to do an "ILM" pass on the design so it felt at home with STO's higher detailed ships. @mikemcmahan.bsky.social

STO players, if you get the Obena today, there is a known issue where the Obena costume itself is not accessible in the tailor. It will be fixed soon. The Obena shares parts with the Excelsior II and right now only Excelsior II parts are available in the tailor 1/2

With the long-serving Excelsior Class finally retiring, Starfleet wanted new iterations. Whilst the Sol Station Shipwrights Guild worked on an extensive refit that would launch in 2401, San Francisco Fleet Yards built an all-new version they named the Obena Class.

With the long-serving Excelsior Class finally retiring, Starfleet wanted new iterations. Whilst the Sol Station Shipwrights Guild worked on an extensive refit that would launch in 2401, San Francisco Fleet Yards built an all-new version they named the Obena Class.

#StarTrekOnline has finally given us the chance to get a look at a full 3D model of the Obena Class from #StarTrekLowerDecks and the thing has FIVE distinct impulse engines that emit trails when you fly around, plus four more lights on the segments of the hull that look to be more!

I prefer the Obena over the Excelsior II - it feels like a descendant of the Excelsior.
Whereas the Excelsior II feels like its just a stretched out version of the original.

If you do apply Excelsior II parts and want access to the Obena look again, drydock the ship and reclaim it to reset its default costume.
