my experiments made me confident I could get to 6x smaller and 500x faster, so that's my budget

Mermaid has 33 types and endless uses, any perf cost I add, I have to find a perf improvement

it's death by a thousand cuts, so MI is helpful for finding optimization space

In pursuit of making Obsidian insanely fast and cohesively designed, I always found the Mermaid library to be too big, too slow, and too hard to theme. Pele will be the new renderer in the next version of Obsidian, but you can start using it now!
