Because hope. #OcTBRChat
Because it taps into those primal feelings of want and need and love so many have. We get to experience those heart-racing moments with idealistic characters we might not always find in our own lives. And because it's fun!

#OcTBRChat
It's another #OcTBRChat and tonight we're all about chocolates and flowers and romance and love!

*attempts a seductive wink*

Ahem. So. First question:

Why do we love romance in our fiction so much?

I should finish this , it's amazing, but the stories pack a heavy emotional punch, so I've felt the need to savour and process each one #OcTBRchat

Last question of the evening.

We've got romance, romantic comedies, and romantasy (and probably many more we've forgotten to list here).

Give us your pitch for the next big and possibly surprising romantic genre mashup!

Last question of this year's #OcTBRChat!

Question 4:

What book would you be most excited to find under your tree this coming Christmas?

@raynewman.bsky.social gave me some super chills with his short story collections this summer - very modern takes on the traditional ghost story, which wear their social consciousness lightly but with depth of emotion

#OcTBRchat keep collecting those badges!! 🎃🎃🎃
@octbrchallenge.bsky.social
Oh! Do you know? I've just realised I can claim my first badge. I read Maus for the first time. Gulp, should have read that a long time ago. Pretty devastating.

My answer to this one is YES I have read a couple of fab spooky reads from clients, one of which is now out. Highly recommend this awesome story set in Blackpool called Fractured Echoes by JJ Noad: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FGY7RZ9...

I'm reading Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky but I want to fit in a couple more horror novels before the end of the month. Buffalo Hunter Hunter, You Weren't Meant To Be Human, and Earthlings are on that list 🤞

I'm actually having to read a fair bit of non-fiction for research at the moment, but this book has made it an absolute pleasure this week. #OcTBRChat

Shoutout to @manylittlewords.bsky.social and @talkscaredpod.bsky.social who have books out and are having a launch in Manchester next week!!!! Both legends of the horror world.

I do think that book I recommended in my last post - Fractured Echoes - would make a great limited series. Spooky stuff in Blackpool? That could be done so well!
Question nr.2: Which (spooky or other) book have your read this year, that would make a great movie or series? 🎦 #OcTBRchat

oooof. I have no idea what I'm reading next. right now I'm devouring Map of Pain by Gale Ian Tate (and it's sooooooo good) but I can't even fathom what I'll be in the mood for next. maybe that Layla Reyne reread.

I have too many on my TBR to read already, so not sure I’m going to wish for more (lol I absolutely will) but I’m excited to get to Shitshow by Chris Panatier!
Question nr.3: Since we're in holiday mood: What book is on your wishlist for the upcoming holidays? (Christmassy or other)! 🎅 #OcTBRchat

October 26, 2025 at 5:39 PM
Well, I read loads of spooky stuff since it's one of my favourite genres. But I was reading what I thought was a "normal" thriller, that turned out to be a horror movie kind of book 👀. Starting to think that goes for all books from this writer, as I'm reading nr.3 and it's also 😱 #OcTBRchat

I'm looking forward to continuing a series by Camilla Grebe. She's an author I didn't know existed until recently. Picked up a free book from one of the town's local spots (we've several here where you can pick up a book or leave one), and it was great! #OcTBRchat

also thinking about rereading Layla Reyne's mutliple series for the third time this year--they're my happy place.
October 5, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Well I just did 😅 @danhanks.bsky.social

But I feel like I need to give a shoutout to the Swedish Stephen King, John Ajvide Lindqvist, who's been translated into English (and several other languages), and who I highly recommend reading! 🧛‍♂️ #OcTBRchat
