PEOPLE: - Shigeru Miyamoto, age 46. Producer of Ocarina of Time and Ocarina of Time Master Quest. QUOTE: Miyamoto: [Ocarina of Time] is designed to read data from the 64DD disc. I can show you now, but although the cutscenes and locations are all the same, once you enter the Deku Tree, you will find a completely different dungeon. We are considering selling the 64DD version [Ed: Ura Zelda, later called Master Quest] as an ultimate challenge game for around 2,000 yen, but I cannot make any promises.

PEOPLE: - Eiji Aonuma, age 41. Dungeon Director of Ocarina of Time. - Shigeru Miyamoto, age 51. Producer of Ocarina of Time & Ocarina of Time Master Quest. QUOTE: Aonuma: After finishing work on Ocarina of Time, Mr. Miyamoto instructed us to use the Ocarina of Time engine to create [Master Quest]—Ocarina's second version with rearranged dungeon gameplay. But, I felt that just changing around the puzzle solving without changing the overall structure was too limiting. I turned down Mr. Miyamoto's offer and proposed that if anything I wanted to make a new Zelda game. Now, Ura Zelda was developed for the Nintendo 64 disc system that was released only in Japan, and since I turned down this project other staff members developed it. It was finally bundled in the GameCube version of Ocarina and released as The Master Quest.

PEOPLE: - Shigeru Miyamoto, age 45. Producer of Ocarina of Time. QUOTE: Miyamoto: We eventually decided to create the main game [of Ocarina of Time] on cartridge and expand it using the Disk Drive. In the end it turned out to be a good decision to go with cartridges. … Cartridges allow for large amounts of data to be quickly handled and processed at the same time. The N64 reads audio and animation data in real-time. There is a big difference in the scale between a game that relies on repeatedly reading and writing vs loading in real-time. Real-time has fewer restrictions on the … calculations and combinations of actions at any given time, so there is a lot of flexibility with enemies for example, whereas on CD and Disk Drive, you become quite limited.

PEOPLE: - Shigeru Miyamoto, age 45. Producer of Ocarina of Time and Ocarina of Time: Master Quest. QUOTE: Miyamoto: We are planning to combine the [N64 Disk Drive] and the cartridge versions of [Ocarina of Time] so that when you enter a dungeon in the base game the Disk Drive data is read and loaded giving access to a new dungeon. Of course, the Disk Drive has not been released as of yet, so I can’t say anything else about it. I think that Zelda obviously has its roots in strong puzzle solving gameplay elements, with different mazes and items used differently in various locations which allows for lots of fun ways to play the game. If we are able to link with the Disk Drive this allows us in a sense to expand the puzzle solving possibilities within the game world.

PEOPLE: - Shigeru Miyamoto, age 45. Producer of Ocarina of Time & Ocarina of Time Master Quest. QUOTE: "Q. So not a full [Ocarina of Time] 2 on the N64 Disk Drive... Miyamoto: More like Zelda 1.5. Q. [laughs] So when you say ‘separate features’ do you mean like completely new dungeons for the DD or additional story or things like that? Miyamoto: I don't think there'd be any changes or additions to the story. If we did do something, it'd be like a dungeon or something like that. Or we could add the most requested feature that people have after playing the game. Usually, once a game is packaged and released, that's it. We can't do anything more to it. But I think it would be interesting if the creators could continue to address things afterward, sort of like live updates."
