Wrong Body No next of kin. Just me. The last name in your orbit. So I made the report. I didn’t know or I would’ve kept my mouth shut and let the city swallow you whole. I didn’t know they’d drag me in, walk me past doors that never open for the living, into a room colder than truth, and pull back a sheet with the casual ease of a morning ritual. I didn’t know a face could swell like that, skin stretched tight, banana peel eyelids, speckled with muddied veins. I didn’t know a stranger’s death could stick to my ribs and rot there, putrifying in dreams. All I knew was that it wasn’t you. Not this time. Not this body. You were gone, and the world didn’t twitch. No answers. No trace. Just absence.

Ob portum veniens (coming toward a port) is a Latin phrase used when a favorable wind blew ships safely toward the harbour. Over time, this evolved into the English word "opportunity".
Opportunity The harbour appears slowly, first a rumour of land, then a breakwater, then lights. A wind inclining itself toward arrival. All our lives such moments come. A friendship. A vocation. A door opening in an ordinary afternoon. The harbour does not choose us. The wind does not compel us. Opportunity lives in the small turning, the quiet consent to make for harbour.

Existential Mic Check I approach the mic a ghost in boots. Not sure I belong, I’ve memorised the floor plan just in case I need to flee without making eye contact. My poem is folded tight. The soft paper of a cursed map, creased and damp from the clutch of anxious hands. I unfold it like a secret I’m not sure I meant to share. I breathe and begin my bad impersonation of someone confident. Voice echoing off the walls like a pigeon trapped in a cathedral. They laugh. Or they don’t. I can’t tell. I’m too busy trying not to faint or cry or spontaneously combust. Someone coughs. Someone nods. Someone looks at me like I might be art, or a fire hazard. I finish. They clap. I bow robotically and exit the stage with the grace of a startled goat. Later, someone says “You were brave.” And I want to say: No, I was terrified. But I did it anyway.
