Come on down to the Council House for International Day of Birmingham, see the Re-Union Jack ♥️ #OneBrum

Goldship have repurposed dozens of dirty & torn polyester flags removed from Birmingham's lamp posts to create a huge Union Jack, adorned with the names of people who have called Birmingham home
Photo of artwork description GOLDSHIP Re-Union Jack 2026 Repurposed polyester flags/Mixed media. Re-Union Jack is an ongoing community art project conceived by GoldShip, the creative duo of textile sculptor Clare Elisabeth and event producer Sam Shipman. Repurposing dozens of dirty and torn polyester flags removed from Birmingham's lamp posts, Clare and Sam, alongside countless contributors from the wider community, pieced them together to create a huge Union Jack. The flag was then transformed over several months by countless more contributors into a visual celebration of the people and stories that have helped shape the West Midlands. Across its surface are the names of influential Midlanders, spanning from the Anglo-Saxon Beorma, after whom Birmingham takes its name, through to the present day. Each has a connection to migration, immigration or the positive influence of people who have made the West Midlands their home. Together, these names reflect the region's extraordinary history as a vibrant melting pot of cultures, ideas, talent and communities - and the positive contribution that migration has made to its identity. The flag has since been signed in black by many of the people whose names feature upon it as a collective endorsement of its message of unity, inclusion and community. Solid Joy CELEBRATES THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF CABLE STREET SOLID JOY PRESENTS - THE BATTLE OF CABLE STREET 90th ANNIVERSARY PARTY Sat 10 Oct 2026 8:00 PM - 2:00 AM The Old Print Works, B12 9AH Select tickets Solid Joy is returning with a party to celebrate the anniversary of the battle of Cable Street! On Sunday 4 October 1936, Oswald Moseley and his British Union of Fascists tried to march through the east end of London, in a bid to terrorise the Jewish communities that lived there. They did not pass. Masses of local people turned out to defend themselves and their neighbours. Despite heavy police violence to try and facilitate the fascist march, Moseley and the BUF were humiliated and re-directed in the opposite direction. Hundreds of thousands of people took to the street, erected barricades and refused to allow fascism to walk through their streets. The anti-fascist action on that day did not happen in a vacuum, it was partly the result of years of solidarity and mutual aid in communities struggling with low pay, insecure work and exploitative landlordism. Conditions still prevalent now. It is in this context, along with the growing strength of fascism in this country that we want to commemorate this great victory and ask what lessons it has for us today, as we seek to counter fascists in the streets, and destroy the conditions that make fascism possible in the first place. As ever we have a banging DJ line-up. RX PRI !! MXCHRD Following the unhinged and joyous success of the maypole at our last party, we can confirm we will have activities in the courtyard to encourage play, joy and collectivity. Solid Joy is a space where we act with care towards each other - transphobia, homophobia, misogyny and classism are not welcome. All funds raised go to good causes organising in our city, and the organisers take no payment. As ever, if you can't afford a ticket please reach out via email or IG dm (@solidjoy.brum), and we will put one aside for you, no questions asked. Venue accessibility information: "Access to the Courtyard Entrance is a little uneven, but step-free There is an accessible ground floor toilet which is located to the rear of the building and access is on the level." If you have any questions about accessibility or adjustments please reach out via email - solidjoy@protonmail.com Victory to the workers, No Pasaran, Solidarity and Joy x Location The Old Print Works, B12 9AH
