You notice how the oneiowa press sheet your paraphrasing noted that ad was shocking precisely because it contradicts his voting record? One of those is more important

Im talking about his exit comment btw not the ad, he should get flack for it, he chose it, but there is no upside for abstaining

That's not what OneIowa said. They said there's no difference between them on the topic of Medicaid coverage of surgical care. They also noted that Turek voted against removing trans civil rights in Iowa in 2025.

I'll argue that what makes Turek worse is that, according to OneIowa, he WAS voting with trans people in the legislature and this is new - what that says is that all his claimed values are questionable. If he'll flip on us to secure his promotion...what other stands will he reverse for convenience?

OneIowa has issued a statement confirming that Josh Turek is personally a TERF, yet promised to not let his personal views affect his policy
One lowa Action FB post One lowa Action has served as the front line of defense for LGBTQ+ rights in lowa, and because of that, we condemn the recent statements from politicians on both sides of the aisle regarding transgender lowans. Referring to trans women as "men" and continually buying into framing that characterizes them as dangerous or unworthy of medically necessary care is harmful and immoral. This is true whether you're Marianette Miller-Meeks or Sarah Trone Garriott. It's unacceptable, regardless of party affiliation or past voting record. We unequivocally condemn Josh Turek's recently released campaign ad and the policy shift it represents. Turek's new ad indicates that he would prohibit all Medicaid coverage for gender affirming care across the board, regardless of age. We have seen how this prohibition on Medicaid coverage has impacted low-income trans lowans, and the effects are devastating. In 2017, trans lowans sued the lowa Department of Human Services on the basis of this discriminatory denial and won. In his ruling, Branstad appointee Judge Arthur Gamble stated that, “The exclusion of coverage was unreasonable, arbitrary and capricious," and that, "there is no room for difference of opinion among reasonable minds The lowa Legislature responded by writing an exemption for this behavior directly into the lowa Civil Rights Act. In 2017, trans lowans sued the lowa Department of Human Services on the basis of this discriminatory denial and won. In his ruling, Branstad appointee Judge Arthur Gamble stated that, “The exclusion of coverage was unreasonable, arbitrary and capricious," and that, "there is no room for difference of opinion among reasonable mindsi The lowa Legislature responded by writing an exemption for this behavior directly into the lowa Civil Rights Act. Trans lowans again sued in 2019 to invalidate this exemption, and won again. Ultimately, these victories were overturned only through the wholesale stripping of trans lowans' civil rights under the lowa Civil Rights Removal Act of 2025. This has been a nearly decade-long fight against discriminatory efforts to deny trans lowans Medicaid coverage. Yet despite his own voting record, Turek has now joined the side of discrimination. When we met with Turek in the aftermath of his first post-primary statement regarding exclusion of trans athletes, we thought he understood our complaints. He assured us that his personal exclusionary beliefs regarding trans athletes would never translate to policy, and he confidently promised that he would not roll out new policy stances that directly contradicted his voting record in the lowa legislature. That was a lie. Make no mistake, Ashley Hinson is no friend (continued) Make no mistake, Ashley Hinson is no friend to LGBTQ+ lowans, and that is not our claim. Hinson has taken every opportunity she has had to strip the rights of transgender lowans, and we believe she would continue that record in the US Senate. But on the specific policy of Medicaid coverage for gender affirming surgical care, there is no light between Hinson and Turek. Their policies on this issue are the same, and that is a dangerous escalation. This places Josh Turek as the most trans exclusionary federal Democrat on the ballot anywhere in the country. We cannot and will not let this go unaddressed. We ultimately do not know who will win this election on November 3rd. What we do know is that we will show up to that Senate office regardless of the winner and demand justice for transgender lowans. Whether it's Turek or Hinson, we will fight for our dignity and healthcare just as ferociously. We ask you to join us in that fight, and to push back on any candidate, Republican or Democrat, that capitulates to attack our transgender friends, family, and neighbors. Trans lowans deserve better. Attached photo is a graphic saying “one Iowa action—trans Iowans deserve better”

Alert from when Iowa action, Iowa civil rights removal act subcommittee meeting. Join us at the Capitol! Monday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. in room 103 SUBCOMMITTEE MONDAY – WE NEED YOU AT THE CAPITOL! Monday, Feb. 24 @ 11 AM 📍 Room 103, Iowa State Capitol Iowa lawmakers are fast-tracking the Iowa Civil Rights Removal Act, which would: ❌ Strip transgender Iowans of protections under the Iowa Civil Rights Act ❌ Remove the ability for Iowans to update gender markers on their birth certificates ❌ Erase transgender Iowans under the law ❌ Weaken protections for intersex and cisgender Iowans who don’t fit rigid gender norms The stakes have never been higher. We need you there. Allies, this is your time to show up for LGBTQ+ Iowans. This is just the first subcommittee—if it moves forward, we’ll likely need you at the Capitol again later in the week. We expect the Iowa State Patrol will be present in increased numbers. Do not engage with law enforcement—this puts everyone at risk, especially BIPOC and undocumented folks who face heightened dangers in police interactions. We must show up and make it clear: Iowans will not stand for this attack on LGBTQ+ rights. *We encourage folks to wear a mask for both their health and security safety*
