OK, so SMS is for dinosaurs. I have GOS and I communicate with people who have I phones and won’t install Signal, or any other messaging app, except maybe WhatsApp in some cases. So they have RCS and iMessage, both of which I can’t use on a GOS phone AFAIK. I really don’t want to use WhatsApp due to its privacy issues. So I end up falling back to SMS for these folks. Do I have any better options? Side note: I did try so called self hosted OpenBubbles using my email address associated with my AppleID as my iMessage ID, but some iMessage recipients weren’t getting my texts for some reason.

OpenBubbles, an open-source project, now lets users send and receive genuine iMessage (blue bubbles) on non-Apple devices, including modern keyboard phones. The app supports reactions, message editing...

The thing where you don’t have to call your phone provider to listen and manage voice mails as a phone call but rather you can do so as a GUI in the phone. I have to listen to voice mails like it’s the early 2000s right now. Below is random marketing image of what visual voice mail is (I don’t even need the text translation, just the management of it is better)

You could use OpenBubbles to use iMessage on Android, but I recommend switching contacts to Signal. GrapheneOS can’t work on an RCS client because it’s not an open standard (yet, hopefully).

One-time access to a Mac or an always-online iPhone is required for activation However I will still look into it.

I switched to Graphmeme recently and started using OpenBubbles for iMessage contacts. They see my messages as coming from my Apple ID email instead of my phone number (I’m not paying for their hosted service), but otherwise it works perfectly fine.

I just randomly discovered the app **OpenBubbles**, which apparently allows you to send iMessages from an Android phone. The app is apparently open-sourced, and claims to protect your privacy. OpenBubbles is an open source application that allows you to send iMessages, make FaceTime calls, use Find My, and play Game Pigeon all from one app! It's a ... I had a iPhone years ago, and despite no longer having one, I still maintain my Apple ID and iCloud account. Most of my phone contacts are saved there, as I don’t save contacts on Android. I have friends who use iPhone but are reluctant to use Signal, and yet are on WhatsApp, which I don’t want to use to talk to them. iMessage is arguably better for privacy than WhatsApp, hence I was hoping that with OpenBubbles I could message my friends on iMessage from my Android phone with my Apple ID account. **Has anyone ever used it? Is it safe?** Enabling OpenBubbles requires a Mac to set up, which I have access to through a relative. OpenBubble claims that none of my Apple ID infor will be saved on the Mac. I would appreciate your feedback on this.
