What people are doing for webcam tracking on Linux is just running OpenSeeFace natively and sending the tracking data to the wine apps, which has advantages anyway (it's just more annoying to set up).

Also it isn't that webcam tracking doesn't work on linux its that the Unity Mediapipe setup that everything uses for tracking doesn't work.

That is why OpenSeeFace works fine.

With halp from DenchiSoft's VTubeStudio wiki content on git we've hooked up ye'olde OpenSeeFace so Frex can use her webcam with VTube Studio right here on her scrimblux machine @frexelnexen.bsky.social

But meanwhile, OpenSeeFace works just fine.

#VTubeStudio running via #Proton #OpenSeeFace and some #Python on #Bazzite #Linux 💚

Even got some new tracking points with the move, look at those smoldering eye wiggles!

I’ve been trying work out OpenSeeFace face tracker and I’m straight up not having a good time.

I got warudo running on linux and face tracking is working. Super excited!

How I did it?

Run Warudo from steam with proton version 9.10 I believe or the hotfix version.

Install openseeface.

Connect your webcam of choice to a USB3.0 or 2.0 port in the back of your motherboard.

Holy heck! External VSeeFace Tracking is through the OpenSeeFace and transmitting to Warudo. It's interesting, sure, but I had to struggle a whole night to get this right. (still using Shipilka since I'm missing blendshapes in my model and I have to still refine it.) @warudo.app

You use VRoid, yeah? I do pretty well with OpenSeeFace running natively, VSeeFace through wine, and OBS.

oh boy something I can actually talk about as it isnt "classified".

I was derping in the godot engine and managed to find a way to make a vtube avatar just using the raw tracking data OpenSeeFace pipes out. I think this has potential.

but I still got a ways to go.
February 13, 2024 at 1:04 AM
That was attempted early on but iirc there was issues getting the webcam/python running for openseeface so the webcam tracking didn't work
December 22, 2025 at 1:30 PM
It's not really about Linux (although there are some issues there too), it's the fact that it's Windows software running under Wine/Proton that really complicates it ^^;;

That's why running OpenSeeFace natively on Linux and sending the tracking data to Windows VTube Studio on Wine/Proton works.

I also got my VSeeFace/OpenSeeFace startup script set up so I don't have to do a bunch of cli stuff whenever I want to stream

AND got streamlabs chat added with (hopefully) twitch and youtube integrated, and moved my nicer mic to my PC

Thursday is gonna be my best stream yet 💚💚💚

I realize this is an absolute longshot, but if anyone is familiar with OpenSeeFace and it's integration into Unity please let me know as I need to pick your brain!

I do everything on desktop, so I've focused mainly on implementing tracking w/ OpenSeeFace and my webcam. I'm still trying to understand the exact mappings of landmarks to VtubeStudio parameters, if anyone has some insight.

I also plan on adding support for VTS's tracking over Wifi

literally as soon as i figured out how to get vseeface to run on linux (which required separately running openseeface), everyone was like "yeah no one uses that anymore use vnyan"
well i finally figured that out & hey it has hand tracking & doesn't lurch me forward every time i blink so that's cool

#linux #vtuber #vtubeestudio

okay okay, now that I succeeded in building OpenSeeFace for Arch. I can prolly put this side hussle away to finish some more "important" things. but hella im liking this alot.
