I really thought orconomics was neat

I'm gonna have to go with Orconomics. Especially because, while it is its own thing, Terry Pratchett fans should love it, and I know that there's more than a few of us out there :)

It's rare to hear people talking about these excellent stories. Find all these and more available from The Last Lantern #ireland #horror #fantasy #scifi #booksky

We’re doing Orconomics for book club this month, and it’s reminding me why I stopped reading Tolkienesque fantasy.

If you like dinniman, I think you'd really love orconomics.

Im not sure piazza is right for you. IIRC, youre not a big dark fantasy person and thats a fairly fucked up book. Incredible. But very dark.

Orconomics made me laugh and, thus, I have put it on my TBR.

(My browser is being a brat and won't let me comment at your blog. 🤷)

A few things. I finished Al Ewing El Sombra Trilogy (really good stuff). Read the first Orconomics book by from J. Zachary Pike. Finished the first Magica Riot book and am now reading the second on. And also finished Superman Miracle Monday.

Gorm Ingersson in Orconomics

Anything written by Terry Pratchett, the Discworld novels especially. If you already read those I can also recommend the Dark Profit Saga by J. Zachary Pike. The first book is Orconomics. It is only D&D-esque in a satirical way of "What if the subprime mortgage crisis happened in a fantasy world"

This is right. We’ve all learned that trickle-down orconomics is untenable.

Orconomics is the first book in a very fun series and a similar vibe to DCC. The Devils is a bit darker but still funny, Joe Abercrombie does dark humour really well!

If you like that stuff you should read Orconomics if you haven’t
August 7, 2026 at 7:23 PM
probably stuff you’ve already read but sole I’ve enjoyed (sci-fi/fantasy-leaning):

- A Memory Called Empire
- all of Discworld
- Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
- Murderbot
- Dungeon Crawler Carl
- Slow Gods
- Orconomics
- Red Rising
- This Is How You Lose the Time War
- Gideon the Ninth

I love that Gorm is what I can best describe as "aggressively acesexual"

From Crypt Currency: A Lesson in Orconomics by J. Zachary Pike.

yes, Orconomics

i need to emphasize that this is a mix of fantasy and financial satire that can stand with the exploits of one Moist v Lipwig

Literally just told someone an hour ago "Orconomics is one of my favorite books. You should ILL it. I gave a copy to my local library so I know for sure they'll send it to you."
A gentle reminder: libraries are still here, still free, still open to everyone. No appointment required. No subscription fee. Just walk in.

A book I'm enjoying a lot right now is Orconomics. A story where a group of fuck-up, washed heroes navigate a fantasy world that works through the nightmare of late stage capitalism. I am having a ton of fun with it! Gorm and his part are some of the most fun characters I've read about.

It's more classically litrpg though, orconomics seems a different genre to me. Tough line to draw though (similar to where to place progression fantasy, where Cradle fits that DCC threshold for me in a genre that I usually find poorly written)
