Rob chooses today's #BirdOfTheDay theme of #LittleLegs, any bird with small legs.

The Alt theme is #Brown, any bird with a brown background.

- Savannah Sparrow (twofer)
- Sandhill Crane Colts - cute

#birds #photography #ECK #orlandowetlands
#birdphotography #NatureTherapy #naturephotography #wck
A Savannah Sparrow, perched here among a thicket brown leafless branches. Small bird, pale white speckled under, going to a pleasing set of brown hues on wings back and tail. Tiny pinkish legs grasping a thin branch, back left side to camera, looking back over its left shoulder at intruding photographer. Two Sandhill Cranes Colts, just wee babes really, hunting along pathside with a parent. The parent seems to be whispering "not to worry, you'll soon have legs nearly as long as mine". The colts are half the size of the adult, below the knee to ankle. Amazing how long those short legs will eventually be. Colts are a fuzzy wuzzy brown-orange-reddish hue when this young. One size comes, color goes beige brown and the distinctive red cap will fill in. Right now its all peachfuzz, short beaks, short wings, and short legs, until later.

Snowy Egret, seen here flying low over a bit of shallow marsh area. Bonus Bittern seen in background, no doubt helping provide visual clearance on this takeoff flight plan. Reflection of the egret broken by a bit of mudbank, but the clarity of the near wingtip feathers fanned out makes this a favorite image for me. Snowy Egret, shown here almost at hover. Was fascinated by watching this hunting manuever, the bird was slowly skimming along large stretches of the shallow water, and would almost freeze in flight when it saw something eligible for the menu. The bird is looking almost straight down, making a nice reflection below.

AB chooses today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme of:

#Dawn; any bird captured at sunrise

Alt. is #Dusk; any bird captured at sunset

- Great Egret
- Anhinga
- Roseatte Spoonbill
- Great Blue Heron & Boat-Tailed Grackle

#ECK #birdphotography #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #florida #orlandowetlands #wck
Great Egret, greeting the morning sun with springtime breeding plumage. Larger wader, long black legs, all white body with long white neck, bright orange sharp stabby murder beak. Seen here perched on branch, facing the morning sunrise. Anhinga, wings spread wide, back to the rising sun. Head looking left of camera, distinctive turquoise eye ring visible. Black wading, swimming bird, white stripes pattern on back of wing, tail tips outlined as well. Seen here perched on top of a short dead tree snag in shallow lake environment. Wake up sleepy-head! Roseatte Spoonbill, seen here perched atop a dead tree branch. Standing on one leg to greet the morning sunrise. Peeking warily, perhaps sleepily, over its shoulder, the one eye just now open to observe this pesky photographer. Various hues of pink and red throughout the medium to large size wader vody. Head nestled down against its back, except for lifting the eye high enough to see down to the ground, the long ladle shaped bill is tucked down out of sight. Go away man, I'm trying to get some sleep here! Cypress tree and residents in silhouette. Spanish moss seen hanging in clumps from this leafless cypress tree. Image taken in color, but came out quite by accident in black and white due to lighting. Gret Blue Heron on left side of tree, peering up at a Boat-Tailed Grackle at the very top of the tree.

Anhinga, mostly submerged, neck and head above water here. Image is a favorite of mine because the bird's tail feathers, spread wide, can be seen just behind and just under the surface of the water Great Egret, staring at photographer, slight side- eye, wondering if that sharp murder beak will be needed this time.

Great Blue Heron, perched in upper branches of a bare tree. Spanish moss hangs down from the lower branches of the tree in thick clumps. Anhinga, fully lit by late afternoon sun, creating a sepia effect in the swamp around the bird. Anhinga in typical drying pose- wings wide, showing to fine effect the detailed feathers and coloration of its back. Also, being "that time of year", the brightly colored blue eye ring is very visible. With the way the head and neck are curled, fine detail in those feathers can also be seen.

Adult Sandhill Crane keeping a close eye on two Sandhill Crane Colts. They are too adorable when they are short and fuzzy! Long black legs on the adult, distinctive red cap and long black stabby beak. Colts look like the chicken- walkers from Star Wars, legs with all the promise of length, not quite delivered yet, and a soft peach fuzz all around. Late afternoon golden hour almost sepia tone image of an adult Great Egret and chic. All white with black legs and orange beak. The Egret chick showing green pale skin where the feathers will soon fill in. Great Egret with chick, in nest. Wing of another Great Egret seen waving behind this pair.
