#Ornithodira

I love that it supports, maybe not completely proving that "feathers" are NOT basal to Dinosauria or even Ornithodira... and convergent elaborations of primitive scales are rampant across Ornithodira for display, protection, and insulation. Fine analysis!

• #Kongonaphon, um #Ornithodira basal do Triássico, saltando para se locomover pelo cenário;

• #Armdillosuchus, um #Notosuchia brasileiro do Cretáceo, cheio de cicatrizes e machucados após uma briga feia, mas esse é experiente.

New insights into Chanaresuchus bonapartei! From Triassic of Argentina, this proterochampsid shows a unique tarsal anatomy — with features not seen in other basal archosauriforms, & traits shared w/Ornithodira.

Creature Feature: Pteranodon!

These toothless, winged reptiles weren’t dinosaurs, but flying pterosaurs, close relatives in the Ornithodira group.

Just like whales and fish both have fins, Pteranodon and birds independently evolved the tools to master the skies.

the discovery of kulindadromeus, another feathered ornithischian, in 2014 has led to speculations that such an integument is homologous with the feathers of theropods, though it is equally likely that feathers were ancestral to dinosauria, if not ornithodira as a whole

Every kid's book about an ancient reptile that isn't a dinosaur spends half its text making sure you know it isn't a dinosaur, and for pterosaurs they should really chill out about it. It's just an accident of history that the dinosaur clade isn't ornithodira.

ORNITHODIRA:

-Pariapuria being a fucked up Anurognathid is very funny I think
-Yes, the Serpents are flying Spinosaurs.
-Kranodath is close to whatever Ornitholestes is
-Its unlikely that Seikrets are dromeosaurs due to how none of them have wings in MH

Ah, defining “dinos” as all Ornithodira. A cultured choice.

Did you mean the hexasyllabic word?

Or should we just hot-glue Ornithodira together?

The braincase is even more interesting. Although incomplete, it closely resembles those of Dryosaurus and especially Camptosaurus. Interestingly though the braincase has a feature previously unreported in all of Ornithodira; a basal prong.

they’re all archosaurs and in the clade ornithodira but thats as close as they get. pterosaurs are not in dinosauria. so theyre all reptiles

#spectember: Day 13 Prehistoric sophont

Jothuns, the sister race of dragons, these mysterious ornithodira are the creators of the great ancestral weapons and are the ancrestals of central characters such as Zero and Joormunganrd, the disappearance of these colossi is unown

True, fair, but honestly it's such a hairline case of node choice ... I would rather introduce archosauromorpha and ornithodira/avemetatarsalia to a layperson than explain why calling dinosaurs 'lizards' is significantly wrongerer.

i could've worded this more clearly: this elongation may have been ancestral to lagerpetidae - if not ornithodira - so it is intriguing that one group to independently re-evolve this trait would comprise gliding reptiles
other lagerpetids instead featured an elongation of the third finger, which is more similar to the condition of the gliding scansoriopterygids like yi than pterosaurs

happy #fossilfriday! this is teleocrater, an aphanosaur from the middle triassic of tanzania. aphanosauria was named in 2017 as a sister clade to ornithodira, the group of avemetatarsalian archosaurs that includes dinosaurs and pterosaurs

There's been rather modest speculation about it in the case of thyreophorans - if we assume the fuzz is ancestral to all dinosaurs or even Ornithodira.
We know only miniscule data (compared to the vast unknown), but the current consensus is that it was unlikely.
Would be really cool if they were.

I don't think griffons are dinosuars.

While both are Ornithodira, griffons are Pterosauromorpha instead of Dinosauromorpha. I know there is some disagreement there (i.e. the Hyperborean Interpretation) but that's pretty well discredited at this point, I think.
