I have fairly strong opinions of that kind of system, actually: India has this system, where you "decide" early STEM or humanities early on, and the perception is STEM="intelligent" students, humanities=not. The STEM branch rarely get any humanities, and are taught they don't need it. I genuinely..
While recognizing that this is partly a reflection of differences between the UK and US models…I do think it’s kinda instructive to think about how this post would play in the world if the author had transposed “history” and “engineering.”
