The Egyptian artisans who decorated tombs and temples, drew sketches and jotted down notes on the plentiful limestone flakes which were by-products of temple and rock-cut tomb construction. Egyptologists refer to them as ‘ostraca’ (singular: ostracon). More info:

Fun fact, these limestone fragments are called Ostracon or Ostraca, and in Ancient Egypt there were basically used like notepads. They would write quick notes on them, artists would use them for sketching, and in this case, for doodles!
To bring a smile to your face, here’s an ancient Egyptian sketch of a tabby cat serving a mouse! 😁

The artist used a flake of limestone as a sketchpad to draw this comic scene some 3,200 years ago.

As an Egyptologist, I can confirm that we have depictions of Pharao Pnw III and Pharao Pnw IX.
As you can see, they are stylistically very similar, and can thus be grouped into the same dynasty (dynasty eighteen and a half).
(joke aside, pn.w is the Middle Egyptian word for mouse, well researched!)

Los gatos del Antiguo Egipto convivían estrechamente con los humanos. Pinturas y textos muestran su presencia en escenas cotidianas, mientras un ostracón de Deir el-Medina registra un gato comiendo grasa de ganso ajena.

Bring back the ostracon! :)
You've heard of democracy, but have you heard of an ostracon?

I hadn't. This is from a kids book about ancient Greece.

Maybe we should bring back the ostracon?
