A fully-funded international response, with #DRC leadership and community support is *the thing to reduce spread to other countries

I don’t underestimate the challenges on the ground but really 🤦🏻‍♀️

@kakape.bsky.social @krutikakuppalli.bsky.social
The epidemic of Ebola - the 2nd largest reported and likely to become the largest ever - caused by Bundibugyo virus, is continuing to expand.

I’m in Nigeria presently and unless an international response kicks into place, the current trajectory will continue with (many) more countries affected.
Not a great sign, but a lot will depend on the details here.

For instance, if the patient really came from Uganda and not DRC via Uganda that suggests there is spread in the country that is being missed.

CDPH official: nationwide cyclospora outbreak has reached nearly 24,000 reported cases; California largely unexposed so far
Michael Needham of CDPH told the ALRB that since May 1 a large cyclospora outbreak has produced roughly 14,000 confirmed U.S. cases and about 11,000 unconfirmed cases — a total near 24,000 — and described California's role in multiagency investigations.

Where did COVID-19 testing delays occur during a statewide testing initiative? Not in the lab. Most delays happened before testing, especially during scheduling and access. ⏱️

11 hours. Damaged roads. Security risks.

Why? To ensure faster detection and response.

Sample transporters are a critical link in stopping outbreaks.

Central Government Mobilizes National Response Team to Combat Chandipura Virus Outbreak For Rajasthan Government Exam Preparation and Practice Download Tayari24 Official App from Play Store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=education.ai.tayari24
Key Highlights * National Joint Outbreak Response Team dispatched to Gujarat and Rajasthan. * Collaboration of NCDC, ICMR, and DAHD to investigate and monitor spread. * Enhanced surveillance of Acute Febrile Illness and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome cases. * Multi‑disciplinary research on transmission, clinical features, and genetics. * Activation of Public Health Emergency Operations Centre for rapid field action. Detailed Insights The Central Government’s strategy hinges on coordinated scientific inquiry and real‑time surveillance. The NJORT, comprising experts from the National Centre for Disease Control, Indian Council of Medical Research, and Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, will conduct epidemiological studies, improve diagnostic capacity, and guide patient management across the affected states. Simultaneously, a consortium of research institutes—National Virology Institute, National Institute of Epidemiology, National Institute of Vector‑Borne Diseases Research, and National Veterinary Epidemiology Institute—has been assembled to dissect the virus’s transmission dynamics, symptomatology, and genetic makeup. Findings will inform evidence‑based containment measures. Field teams are intensifying monitoring of suspected cases, focusing on Acute Febrile Illness (AFI) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). Community surveys assess infection prevalence, asymptomatic carriage, and viral load, enabling authorities to pinpoint vulnerable populations and allocate resources efficiently. Key Concepts * Chandipura Virus – A vesicular stomatitis virus‑like pathogen first identified in India, causing febrile illness and encephalitis. * National Joint Outbreak Response Team (NJORT) – A multidisciplinary task force formed by NCDC, ICMR, and DAHD to coordinate outbreak investigation and response. * Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) – A national framework that integrates surveillance data from all states to detect and respond to communicable disease threats.
