Few nun-based drama productions can resist the cornette.
Black-and-white photo of a Polish nun in 1939 wearing a black wool habit with white linen overcollar. On her head she wears a "cornette", an elaborately folded and starched white linen wimple that is a head's height taller than her head, wider than her shoulders, and looks as if she could take off and fly. Sally Field in "The Flying Nun" wore an exaggeration of this sort of wimple. The cornette was worn only by the Sisters of Mercy, who stopped requiring it in the early 1960s.
