Yesterday was a drawing I love, today a drawing I hate. It turned out so poorly. It's one of reasons why now I give myself 6 days to finish a drawing instead of 4. I have more time to think what I wanna do with it 💙

An oil painting of a woman in thought. I am an overthinker. Not on everything, but on many, many things. Especially when it comes to other humans. It is quite entertaining, when I take a step back, watching my mind create problems and worries and storylines and catastrophic events. But I know this about myself, so I can often (not always) catch it before it becomes a whole thing. I wonder if many of you would call yourselves "overthinkers" or perhaps ruminators? Ruminating sounds a bit more philosophical and grand to me, but it is really just more of the same. Running over conversations, texts, interactions from every dang angle until you've teased out all the possible meanings, motives, and mistakes. It is my practice, when I catch myself, to send these thoughts outside with picket signs, to march up and down the sidewalk. It gives me some distance from them, and the absurdity usually jumpstarts my mind into something more productive. :) And so I will respond to Bray's poem with this: in my mind I say "rumination" with my words I say: a pungent sauce marinating memories fingers won't stop dipping even though my tongue recoils
