"evidence from other states clearly show that Prescription Drug Affordability Boards (“PDABs”) do not achieve this goal. They are expensive undertakings that other states have either repealed or are considering repealing due to costs and ineffectiveness.”

PDABs weren’t built to protect patients—they were built to look like reform.
Now their sham processes mirror RFK Jr.'s gutting of public input at HHS.
Different timelines, same result: patients excluded.

PDAB Chicanery: How Drug Affordability Boards Are Undermining Public Engagement
PDABs say they’re helping patients. In reality, they’re muzzling public input and playing politics with life-saving medications.

Governor Youngkin should veto Prescription Drug Affordability Boards, again

I like the idea of finding practical ways to make expensive drugs more affordable. PDABs are something to keep in mind, if they can actually deliver savings without creating access problems.

CANN wishes to express our gratitude to Gov. Youngkin for his veto of HB1724. #PDABs repeat the problems in the Inflation Reduction Act, incentivizing upward wealth redistribution at the expense of healthcare access.

Insulin Prices Dropped. But Some Poor Patients Are Paying More.
A law that coaxed companies to lower the price of drugs came with a little-known consequence: smaller discounts for low-income health clinics.

Louisiana must reject #SB401 and save patients from hardships imposed by Prescription Drug Affordability Boards (PDABs). Otherwise, patients will suffer from flawed policies like Upper Payment Limits (UPLs) — price caps that limit medication access and supply and increase out-of-pocket costs.

I'm not shocked at all. This is who Spanberger is, folks.

You'll keep seeing it more and more.
Gov. Abigail Spanberger killed a proposal Tuesday that would have created a Virginia Prescription Drug Affordability Board, shelving a years-long bipartisan effort aimed at lowering prescription drug costs through state oversight and payment limits.

$28M into drug-price boards since 2019 and still no patient UPL savings. Colorado’s cap is in court, Maryland’s does not hit commercial pockets yet. A board that never moves the counter is not bargaining.

CANN’s tally is the part that should travel: $28 million spent, 221 meetings, zero patient-facing UPL savings. Affordability is what the patient pays and whether the script fills, not how many hearings got scheduled.

We need more solutions to the prescription drug affordability problem, not fewer. PDABs are one way states can push for more reasonable prices.

This makes me think of PDABs differently. Maybe the useful question isn't how do we make every prescription cheaper? but which drugs are creating the biggest affordability problems?

It's worth looking at Prescription Drug Affordability Boards (PDABs) and what they can do to help patients cope with some of the financial struggles they have with healthcare. By assessing if prescription drugs are overpriced, they can mitigate some issues that a lot of people are dealing with.

Transparency is always welcome, especially in matters of public interest, such as healthcare. PDABs should use transparency as a tool in their efforts to help monitor and lower prescription drug prices.
