The Persian word goes back to Middle Persian
This is particularly problematic for Gulf Arabic which has had contact with both Portiguese and Persian. But, IIRC, the Gulf Arabic is mēz, corresponding better to Persian than Portuguese. (GA has 200+ Persian loans & maybe 30 from Portuguese)
