a quick teaching observation: I've found it really generative to teach Petrarchism by focusing on female poets responding to him & his imitators.

it makes a really nice class structure: showing the features of Petrarchan verse & how those features can test the bounds of the Petrarchan project.

Finally got to Lucy Alford on my stack of "must reads" (I know...I know...shoulda gotten there sooner), and it's another of those Books I Have Been Waiting For...right up there with my first read of Poetry and the Fate of the Senses, or The Sighted Singer, or Post-Petrarchism. That kind of great.

I'm coming around to the notion that hegemonic masculinity is the problem, and fascism simply one manifestation of that problem. Here's a quote I ran across recently:

Fascism comes from misogyny as much (or more!) as it comes from racism. The fascists themselves have been clear about this for a century. So yeah, one expects stupid trans bigotry from fascists, but those on the left who repeat such things are either closet fascists, or unwitting fascist enablers.
