It wasn't the SNP that burdened Scotland with £30billon of PFI debt.

UK public debt £2.8trn, 96% of GDP.

It includes about $700bn of quantitative easing. Is it debt? By excluding QE, debt is 70%-75% of GDP.

Post-war reconstruction based on debt, 270% of GDP.

Govt can borrow more to invest.

Govt borrowing cheaper than PFI.

Why won't the govt borrow?

Hedge fund chief says UK stuck in ‘debt doom loop’.

Silence about corporate debt, abuses, tax dodges; impact of PFI, privatisations on public debt.

Post-war UK reconstructed with debt of 270% of GDP; rich taxed more, led to boom, debt eventually down to 22%.

💷Our new research shows that in the last 5 years, NHS trusts spent billions through PFI contracts.

💔 Every pound spent on PFI debt is a pound not spent on patient care.

Public money should fund care - not corporate profits.

Gifts from neoliberalism.

7.1m England hospital appointments awaited.
Water company rip-off
Costly energy
Expensive dentistry
Loss of social housing
Social care privatised
Real average wage unchanged since 2008
Potholed roads
Bank bailouts
PFI
£292bn student debt

Yet govts want more neoliberalism.

Privatisation of the NHS.

Govt asks private finance investors about backing 200 neighbourhood health centres.

PFI is a disaster. Guarantees corporate profits. £1 investment, £6 repayment. Higher taxes, bigger govt debt, poor value for money.

Cheaper for govt to build. Nothing learnt from the past

🏥 Hospitals built with PFI were found to be 70% more expensive than public builds.

Private partnerships were costly and ineffective last time — saddling the NHS with decades of debt.

So why bring them back… and who really benefits? 👀

💷 In the last 5 years, NHS trusts spent £3.1bn through PFI contracts:£1.2bn in debt + £1.8bn in interest.

That £1.8bn could fund 50,000 new doctors’ starting salaries, or cover £2.7bn in urgent NHS repairs.

💔 Every pound spent on PFI debt is a pound not spent on NHS, staff or patients.

Dear Keir Starmer,

Quick question - these 150 national infrastructure projects you mentioned this morning. Will they be a copy of the PFI projects, involving private companies and saddling the public with billions in debt?🚨

Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) is one of the biggest cons created by Tories, expanded by Labour.

For every £1 of private investment in public assets govt repays £6, resulting in higher debt/taxes.

Cheaper for govt to borrow or it can create money

But govt is reviving PFI. Must change policy.
Why the reshuffle alone won’t change the government’s fortunes
"For better electoral fortunes, the government needs to junk neoliberal policies, never-ending austerity; directly invest in infrastructure and redistribute income and wealth."

💷 PFI buried the NHS in billions of debt 💸

Now it’s being rebranded + repackaged as a “new solution.”
But let’s not be fooled — a bad deal with a new name is still a bad deal.

It’s easy to lose sight of what billions in PFI debt actually cost.

But behind every figure is a nurse working double shifts, a ward left understaffed, a patient waiting longer.

💬 Billions in interest. Staff under pressure. That’s PFI.

We oppose PFI for more than the billions in debt it leaves behind.

Inflexible, poor-value maintenance contracts siphon money from patient care and lock trusts into bad deals.

The NHS — its staff & patients — deserve better.

PFI didn’t just burden NHS trusts with huge debt, it trapped them in decades of overpriced maintenance contracts.

One trust was charged + £300 to change a lightbulb. Outrageous.

And now the gov is exploring PFI-style schemes again. Fight back with us: bit.ly/NHSandBudget
