PIPC said DeepSeek—an app with >1 million downloads —automatically transmitted information to ByteDance servers every time users accessed the app, doing so without disclosure or explicit consent. PIPC told South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency it was “yet to confirm what data was transferred & extent.”

Dave was an amazing scholar and an incredibly kind man. When I first came to Duke as a slightly uninformed exchange student I had the idea to write my Diplom thesis on a comparison of Congress and the Bundestag. Dave offered his help and gave me a desk in PIPC. He will be missed.
I was really sad to hear about Dave Rohde's passing. Dave was, of course, an incredible scholar. He was also a great advisor and so many of us owe him a debt of gratitude for helping launch our careers. When I'm puzzled by something, I'll often think to myself, what would Dave do. It usually helps.
