There's an unstated PitL principle that a call's semantics should only change when the calling module or the modules defining the receiver change. Changes to code in some third module shouldn't.
I wonder if Kotlin/C# extension methods and other UFCS-y dispatch mechanisms have/will spawn it too.

I generally agree with the OP.
But for PitL, it's good to have a way to say "prima facie, the maintainers of this code are to blame so should investigate."
At runtime, it's the program counter. Prima facie the loop that never ends or the function that recurses infinitely is to blame.

Yeah. I think that original take on PitL was flawed. It works when you've got many teams of generalist SWEs, but its flaws show when there are teams with mixed skillsets: non-SWE subject matter experts, generalist SWEs, library-writing specialists.
