PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana brings affordable solar energy to one crore households, offering up to 300 free electricity units

New Delhi, Oct 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Public sector banks (PSBs) have sanctioned over 5.79 lakh loan applications, amounting to Rs 10,907 crore (as of September 2025), under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY), thus augmenting the financial support to the beneficiaries in installing rooftop solar systems, it was announced on Tuesday. The scheme has achieved a significant milestone in empowering households with clean and affordable solar energy.

New Delhi, March 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) -- the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar initiative -- has achieved a significant milestone by completing 10.09 lakh installations across the country, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said on Tuesday. The Ministry noted that “45 per cent households in the country with solar panels are now getting zero electricity bills”.

New Delhi, Feb 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) has already benefited 8.46 lakh households through rooftop solar installations as it marks the first anniversary of its launch on Thursday (February 13), according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Renewable Energy on Wednesday. The scheme has accelerated India's adoption of renewable energy with a 10-fold jump in the monthly rate of installation with 70,000 solar panels being installed on the rooftops of households per month, significantly surpassing pre-scheme levels, the statement said.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana offers households with free electricity through the installation of subsidized rooftop solar panels, significantly reducing their energy costs.  Households will have access to collateral-free, low-interest loans at around 7% interest for the installation of residential rooftop solar (RTS) systems up to 3 kW.
