It's absurd that @google-maps.bsky.social just doesn't get it. Their copout about using what PNIS says is laughable, and when you point out that they are sucking Donald Trump's PNIS they get offended.
YOU clowns brought it up and are abiding by it instead of international treaties. DUH.

Excuse me? You are the ones preaching PNIS. I'm just pointing out what it spells and what you are doing with it. If you don't like being told these things, change it back and stop brown nosing.

Google Maps told me they're just following the government's source for names, PNIS.
I told them to get Donald Trump's PNIS out of their mouth.

@google-maps.bsky.social if your goal was to lose users and revenue, you have succeeded. We will not come back. You told me in a DM that you are just following what PNIS says.
We the former users suggest you get Donald Trump's PNIS out of your mouth and follow the law.

Just because your damn PNIS system says lake America doesn’t mean you have to capitulate.

Mapquest hasn’t!!!!!

So I’ll have my “mappy” day with Mapquest not a bunch of cowardly capitulators

@google-maps.bsky.social take note: THIS IS THE LAW. Follow the law, not your PNIS.
Yeah, we know but tell that to Google. Buncha bitches.

We are sad to see you go!

However, we are committed to strict adherence to the US Geological Service PNIS.
Name changes to US landmarks and notable waterways are prescribed by the Honorific & Renaming Division (H&RD).

So, I tried to Google PNIS that they mentioned and you can guess what it thought I meant. 😳 This looks like the DB they meant:
The U.S. place names information system is the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), operated by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
I agree with you though, John.
